Green Gift Weekly Progress One and Two

Green Gift: SipCup

Weekly Progress One:

Message TeaBags

I discussed the several ideas i had with a couple of friends as well as my tutor

Peer One: I like the idea of giving someone something related to tea because they can interact with it and thats what makes it interesting.

Peer two: Tea related gifts are great. But you need to figure out what the tea bags are made of. What tea you would put in them. How the message is to appear etc.

Tutor: Tea gifts seem to be a very popular thing amongst females. The idea of the message tea bag is good but its more of a packaging issue rather than a green gift. Further develop your concept of tea accessories. This is too vague.

Weekly Progress Two:

Concepts were further developed.  After discussion with peers and tutors the idea was further developed into an actual product.

Peer One: Good progress from last week. The development of a cup is a good idea, although its something thats been done by a lot of people and so you would need to make its yours somehow.

Peer Two: I like the idea of the cup. If its going to be made of recycled glass you have to take into account that not all glass can be recycled and maybe consider an alternative.

Peer Three: To make your design more interesting you would need to create a way of interaction with it from the user. What would you change about it to create a more interactive and personal product.

Tutor: You still need to further develop the form of the cup and maybe this could be the interactive element to it, the way the user holds it.

Rationale: PVSeat Sense of Place

Rationale : The PVSeat

The PVSeat chairs provide communal gathering as well as invitation for use of obsolete products to create action with the lowest cost. The use of obsolete drainage PVC pipes and disposed milk crates have created urban furniture which was made to gather people. The linked shape of the seats and the thought behind the flower beds which is to encourage families to meet at their community parks and plant their own flowers in the flower beds.

PVC has been proven to be dominant over other noncorrosive and nonresistant materials such as iron for the usage of water drainage.
The Australian Vinyls and Plastics Industry Pipe Association recommends that PVC pipes to be used because the abilities of PVC pipes is very flexible with technology and design features, which are relevant to the Australian Environment which aims to invest in new equipment and expand the product range. “This, along with other environmental aspects such as low embodied energy, makes PVC the most sustainable material for sewer applications in Australia”. [1]

With rapid technological change and improvements in the Australian Vinyls and Plastics Industry, many PVC pipes are being replaced by their improved versions. [2]

Everyday 2,000 milk crates are taken out of the dairy farmers’ systems. Dairy Farmers’ is running a Milk Crate Recovery Program which aims to recollect disposed milk crates. These milk crates can be used to create the seating surface of the chair.
The texture of the milk crate surface allows rain water to go through and into the flower bed with the aid of the chair drainage system.
